Support-Raising FAQs
We’re often asked questions about how support-raising works. The process can be confusing (it was to us at first!), so we decided to round up answers to the most frequently asked questions! Let’s go!
How much money are you trying to raise?
Our goal is to raise $9417.58/month in ongoing support. Our budget was set by TLI based on their experience in overseas ministry as a realistic, long-term budget for a family of six living in Cameroon. Since Daniel’s work providing theological education at BCS Yaoundé and at Eglise Baptise Betlehéem will be 100% volunteer work, he will not be receiving a paycheck from either institution.Isn’t that a lot of money? What will you use this support for?
Our income through TLI will be used for our day-to-day living expenses (things such as rent, vehicle expenses, groceries, clothing, and school supplies for the kids), ministry expenses (books or teaching materials, hospitality expenses), travel expenses (we will be taking trips back to the States roughly every other year), and things that would typically be included in a benefits package (healthcare, retirement, etc.).Does TLI take a cut?
Yes. When we were appointed as global partner candidates, we happily agreed to give 10% of our support to the TLI home office to help cover their overhead costs. Why are you going through an organization?
TLI provides financial accountability and administrative support on the field (care, supervision, evacuation support, etc.).Can we give directly to you?
Yes. TLI allows us to count direct support toward our total support raising goal. What are some ways that I can give?
You can give a one-time gift, occasionally, or regularly (monthly, quarterly, annually).Where does the money go?
The money goes into an account designated for us with TLI. Once we reach 100% support, Daniel’s paycheck will come from that account. How are different kinds of gifts used?
Recurring gifts will go toward our ongoing costs once we launch. In the meantime, recurring gifts and one-time gifts accumulate and cover support-raising costs (travel, printed materials, etc.) and will go toward our one-time costs of moving to France and Cameroon. When should I start giving? Can I wait until you are on the field?
It’s up to you when you start giving. However, we will not be able to launch until we are fully supported. We expect that in the future some people will need to stop their support for one reason or another, so if you decide to start giving later, it would help replace our support. How do I start giving?
You can give electronically here or by mail by sending your support to Training Leaders International, PO Box 310, Wheaton, IL 60187-0310. Please make sure to write nothing on the memo line and include a separate note with your name as the giver and our names as the recipients so TLI can apply the gift where you intend.
